Dutch Apple Pie

Updated: May 5

When my daughter was little, we went to an afternoon tea at a local church. It was a special outing together.

The tea was combined with a bake sale. We bought a Dutch Apple Pie from a lovely lady. None of us had tasted one before. We were curious. It was the most delicious, memorable pie.

We longed to have this pie again. I searched for a recipe. This is the recipe I have used ever since. It always reminds us of the lovely lady, her pie, and the special afternoon tea.

In a bowl combine:

1 package cream cheese

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Beat with a mixer until very smooth.

Spread the mixture:

on the bottom of one unbaked pie crust in a pie plate

Peel, core, and thinly slice:

4 apples

In a bowl combine:

the thinly sliced apples

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons all purpose flour

Thoroughly mix and spread over the cream cheese layer in the pie crust.

In a bowl combine:

1/2 cup all purpose flour

1/2 cup brown sugar

Mix flour and sugar together.

Add to bowl:

1/2 cup cold cubed butter

Cut butter into flour and sugar with a fork.

Add to the mixture:

1/2 cup large flake oats

Stir with the fork, or use your hands to mix well.

Crumble evenly on top of the apple mixture in the pie crust.

Cover with foil.

Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit on the bottom third of the oven for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 30 minutes or until golden brown.
