Roast Sausage, Cabbage & Potatoes

Updated: May 6

Simple, tasty dinner in a roaster. I use mild Italian sausage in this recipe. Any sausage you like will work. When I first made this years ago, we were surprised at how good it is! The broth in the bottom and the the sausage on top is what really gives this recipe such great flavor.

I get sausage from local farmers in bulk and keep it in the freezer until we use it for a meal. West River Farms or Whistleberry Market are my go to places for sausage.

On the bottom of a roaster pan add:

One head of cabbage sliced into thick pieces (cabbage steaks, cut in half)

Cover the entire roaster bottom with the cabbage steaks

Add to the cabbage in the roaster:

2 cups of chicken or beef broth

Add to the roasting pan:

Potatoes cut in large chunks to cover cabbage layer

Salt and pepper

Add to the roasting pan:

Twelve mild Italian sausages (or whatever flavor you like)

Cover the potatoes evenly with the sausage.

Place the lid on the roaster. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 2 hours. The cabbage should be soft and browned.
